Designed by Gilroy Roberts and Frank Gasparro the US Government began minting the new Kennedy half dollar in January 1964. Production began at the Denver mint and about a week later at the Philadelphia mint. Due to the rising price of Silver, the composition of the Kennedy half dollar was changed in 1965 from 90% Silver to 40% Silver.
