1960 Silver Washington Quarter - Bill Fivaz Red Book Label Type B - NGC MS64

At first glance, this 1960 Silver Washington Quarter may appear like any other coin from its era. However, upon closer inspection, you’ll notice the rare Type B reverse, where the frosty, proof-like fields and sharp details were mistakenly struck on a circulation coin. This fascinating variety makes it a standout piece, especially since it’s also composed of 90% silver.

Certified by NGC in MS64 condition, this coin carries the added prestige of a special Bill Fivaz signature label. Fivaz, co-author of The Cherrypicker’s Guide to Rare Die Varieties and 2001 ANA Numismatist of the Year, is one of the foremost authorities on error varieties—making his endorsement especially significant for this rare quarter.

With a total mintage of 29,164,000, only a fraction of 1960 quarters display this scarce reverse. NGC’s population for this coin in MS64 is just 492 pieces, and only 99 examples feature the Bill Fivaz signed Red Book label (as of 10/14/24). This combination of condition, error variety, and numismatic recognition makes this coin a prime choice for collectors.

Whether you’re drawn to error varieties, signed labels, or simply want a unique addition to your Washington Quarter set, this coin embodies rarity and history in one. It represents not just a minting anomaly, but also a collaboration with one of the most respected names in numismatics.
