Struck at Philadelphia Mint
The ONLY Silver Nickels in US history were struck from 1942 - 1945
The United States introduced the war nickel on October 8th, 1942. These war nickels contained no actual nickel. Silver and manganese were used to replace nickel. The purpose of the war nickel was to conserve nickel, a critical wartime commodity. The government needed nickel in order to fight in WWII. This 1942 nickel war is graded MS66 by NGC. Beautiful to look at and will make a great addition to your Jefferson nickel collection!
