1907 Woodchopper - Last Ever $5 Horse Blanket Note - Legal Tender - XF

The Last of the Woodchoppers and the Last of the Horse Blankets

Issued in 1907, this $5 Legal Tender Woodchopper Note represents the end of an era in American currency. Its intricate design pays tribute to the nation’s frontier spirit, featuring a rugged pioneer and his family — symbols of hard work, self-reliance, and the enduring American dream. Nicknamed the “Woodchopper,” this note is both a historical artifact and a work of art that captures the essence of the early 20th century.

The obverse displays an elaborately engraved vignette of a frontiersman alongside President Andrew Jackson’s portrait, while bold red treasury seals and serial numbers enhance its vintage appeal. Measuring 7.375" x 3.125", this oversized bill earned the affectionate nickname “Horse Blanket Note” for being roughly 40% larger than today’s currency — a true standout in any collection.

This issue marks the final $5 large-size note ever printed by the U.S. government, closing a chapter in the history of American paper money. Over a century later, these notes remain among the most sought-after collectibles for their artistry and historical significance. Each comes graded Extremely Fine (XF), meaning it has retained excellent detail and minimal signs of wear despite its age.

Your 1907 Woodchopper Note arrives protected in a clear acrylic holder, ideal for both preservation and display. With limited availability and immense historical importance, this is an opportunity to own a genuine piece of U.S. currency heritage that rarely surfaces in such fine condition.
