Walter Banner was born at St. Giles, Edinburgh in 1881 and attested into the Volunteer Cycle Company of the Royal Scots at Berwick-on-Tweed 26 March 1901. Posted to South Africa on 14 May 1901 he was one of just 141 names upon their roll for the war. He was discharged on 5 July 1902.
